Journey into the heart of Rwanda’s lush tea plantations, particularly in the rolling hills of Gisakura or Gisovu, where you’ll explore the world of tea production in one of the country's most famous tea-growing regions.
Itinerary:
Morning Pick-Up (7:00 AM): You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Kigali by a private vehicle and head to the scenic Gisakura or Gisovu tea plantations.
Arrival and Introduction to the Tea Plantation (10:00 AM): Upon arrival, you’ll be introduced to your guide, a local tea expert, who will give an overview of the plantation’s history and its economic importance to Rwanda.
Walking Tour of the Tea Fields (10:30 AM): Stroll through the lush, terraced tea fields, with workers actively plucking the tender tea leaves. Your guide will explain the step-by-step process of tea farming, from planting to harvest.
Tea Factory Visit (12:00 PM): Head to the nearby tea processing factory, where you’ll learn about the fermentation, drying, and packaging processes. You’ll also be introduced to Rwanda’s best-known tea products.
Lunch Overlooking the Plantations (1:00 PM): Enjoy a traditional Rwandan lunch at a picturesque spot with panoramic views of the tea fields. Relax and enjoy local tea varieties with your meal.
Tea Tasting (2:00 PM): Participate in an expert-led tea tasting session, where you’ll sample different types of Rwandan tea and learn how to distinguish flavors and aromas.
Interactive Farmer Exchange (3:00 PM): Meet and interact with local tea farmers, who will share stories about their work, challenges, and how tea farming has transformed their lives. You may also have the opportunity to try your hand at picking tea leaves.
Return to Kigali (4:00 PM): The tour concludes with a scenic drive back to Kigali, arriving at your hotel around 7:00 PM.
