Challenge yourself with a trek up Mount Bisoke, one of the Virunga volcanic mountains. This hike is physically demanding but rewarding.
Itinerary:
Early Morning Departure (5:00 AM): Depart from Kigali and head to Volcanoes National Park, where the Mount Bisoke hike begins.
Registration and Guide Briefing (7:00 AM): Register at the park headquarters and attend a briefing session with the park rangers who will accompany you on the hike.
Start of the Hike (8:00 AM): Begin your trek up Mount Bisoke, an active volcano with a stunning crater lake at its summit. The trek takes about 4-5 hours, and along the way, you’ll pass through dense forests and open clearings.
Wildlife Spotting (10:30 AM): As you hike, be on the lookout for wildlife such as monkeys, forest elephants, andwild buffaloes in the forested sections of the trail. Your guide will help point out any rare sightings and explain the diverse ecosystems of the mountain.
Reaching the Summit (12:00 PM): Upon reaching the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the crater lake, as well as vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Take time to rest, enjoy a packed lunch, and soak in the natural beauty.
Descent (1:00 PM): Begin your descent, taking in the new perspectives and landscapes as you make your way back down.
Return to Kigali (4:30 PM): After completing your hike, return to Kigali by late afternoon.
