This 2-day trip will take you on a journey through the rolling plains of Eastern of Rwanda spanning approximately 1,122square kilometer. It is named after river Akagera, which flows along the park’s Eastern border to Tanzania. Akagera is Rwanda’s largest protected wetland and one of the few remaining savannah ecosystems in the country, this making it a unique blend of biodiversity and stunning landscapes.
TRANSFER TO AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK
Start your day early morning with a drive towards Akagera rewarded as “The Big-Five” such as Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Buffalos and Rhinoceros. I t is also a home to the encounters of Zebras, Giraffes, Antelopes, Hippos, Crocodiles and over 500 bird species including the endangered shoebill stork and papyrus gonolek. Through the partnership of RDB and African Parks, the remark it as the one of African great conservation success for the reintroduction of Lions in 2025 and Rhinos 2017/2029. This park is enriched with water bodies and the second biggest lake of Rwanda, Ihema is found inside the Akagera NP. You will straight go for boating to Lake Ihema for a thrilling cruise. This will be a splendid sighting of schools of hippos, giant Nile crocodiles, water birds, buffaloes, etc. After enjoying boat cruise, you will drive ahead to meet with different species of animals especially herbivorous of the Kirara valley towards the exit gate in the North.
This region is best for spotting members of the Big Five including the Hippos, elephants, buffaloes; giraffes, warthogs, waterbucks, and different antelope species such as the "Roan Antelope" or horse antelope, the largest and, with the topi or lyre antelope, one of the fastest. You will be amazed by the beautiful landscape, where you can see the lakes lined up like a string of pearls that demands your attention. Most part of the day is spent doing the game drives. It may take up to six hours on the game drive.

After your morning breakfast, you will go on the next day game drive discovering the wonders of Akagera NP. Here, you will explore different trails of the park and each one of them takes visitor to a new experience. For bird lovers, it will be good day to catch up with many birds especially when you wake in the early morning. You will be lucky to see what missed on the first day, too. After enjoying lunch at the lodge or your preferred packed one, you will exit the park and drive back Kigali. In the way, you will stop by Friends of Handicap center located in Kayonza for 30 minutes where 50% of our income goes to help the youth and children who live with disabilities especially deaf and deafblind to acknowledge and support our aims.
